Smithfield Supporting Housing facility offers independent living (each suite has kitchen facilities and stacking
washing machine and dryer). The noon meal is included in rent and is the largest meal of the day.
Nutritious meals are served buffet-style in order to allow residents to make their own food choices.
Diabetic desserts are available. Size of rooms range
from 488 square feet to 888 square feet. Each suite has wheelchair accessible bathrooms
with separate bedroom, and combined living room and kitchen space. Basic housekeeping
service in provided on a weekly basis and includes vacuuming carpets and washing floors,
cleaning the bathroom, and a change of linens. Other household chores are the
responsibility of the resident.
Residents are free to come and go as they wish. After 9:00 p.m.,
entrance is available through ringing of the front doorbell.
Located within two minute walking radius is the Toronto Dominion Bank
(one of six banks in the area which also include: Commonwealth Credit Union, Bank of Montreal,
Bank of Nova Scotia, Alberta Treasury Branch, Royal Bank) and the
Gospel Chapel Church (see Town of Westlock for listing of other churches).
Service of the local Action Bus is available two
days a week to the downtown area and doctor's offices: more frequent visits to
the Day Program at the Auxiliary are available up to four times each week.
Housing staff are on duty twenty-four hours each day, and a wireless pendant system
provides immediate help to the residents in case of an emergency.
There are many weekly activities provided through
the Activities Coordinator, who promotes community involvement and interaction with residents.
Exercise equipment is available for resident use and includes three stationery bikes and a treadmill located in the TV lounge.
